The brown around the top is a very rich color. They are fairly soft leather with a no slip sole, which is nice. I have a narrow foot and theses boots run narrow, so if you have a wide foot maybe not for you. I've received lots of compliments. I usually wear a 6.5 and ordered these in 7 to allow for thick socks and they fit well. After walking in them for several hours, I've found them to be very comfortable. The calf circumference is not too wide which I like, but there is a pleat that I imagine would stretch for someone with wider calves. The only thing I've noticed, is there is a little bunching at ankles where the buckle is, very mild. It doesn't bother me but some girls may not like it. I will try to post a pic soon. Earlier this summer, I bought a pair and inserted foot petals in the right heel (smaller of the 2 feet) and I can't even tell I'm wearing heals. They are literally so comfy, which lead me to go back to the Bandolino brand when looking for boots for this fall/winter. I returned these black ones in exchange for the same exact style in the brown/cognac leather (which are beautiful) and they too are ridiculously comfortable. Will continue to support this brand!!
